這幾天在構思講章，再想起這首歌，發覺原本的詞實在意義深邃：

The shadow of a mighty rock     Within a weary land;  好像盛暑遠行辛苦，來到磐石之蔭，
A home within the wilderness,     A rest upon the way,   又像曠野遇見故鄉，長途喜見涼亭，
From the burning of the noontide heat,    And the burden of the day.   到此得釋肩頭重擔，養力奔赴前程。

2. O safe and happy shelter!     O refuge tried and sweet!    安全快樂的避難所！可靠甜蜜的藏身處！
O trysting place where heaven's love     And heaven's justice meet!  如此約會之地，屬天的愛與公義匯流，
As to the holy patriarch      That wondrous dream was given,   正如先祖所得奇妙夢，
So seems my Saviour's cross to me      A ladder up to heaven.  我主十架於我也是，如同往天之梯。

3. There lies, beneath its shadow,      But on the farther side,　在十架清影底下，在遙遠之處，
The darkness of an awful grave    That gapes both deep and wide;　我見可怕墳墓的黑漆，張開廣闊的深淵，
And there between us stands the cross,  Two arms outstretched to save;　那裏有十架樹立我們中間，雙臂張開來拯救，
Like a watchman set to guard the way   From that eternal grave.　如同夜間的看守者，引領我們離開永死之墓。

4. Upon that cross of Jesus     Mine eye at times can see   在那耶穌的十架上，我眼不時能見，
The very dying form of One      Who suffered there for me;   瀕臨死亡的那位，在那裏為我受苦，
And from my smitten heart, with tears,      Two wonders I confess--   從我的痛心與熱淚，我宣認兩件驚歎事：
The wonders of His glorious love,     And my own worthlessness.   驚歎主榮耀的愛，驚歎自己何等的下賤。

5. I take, O cross, thy shadow,     For my abiding place;　願以寶架清影，為我常居之處；
I ask no other sunshine than      The sunshine of His face;   我不尋求旭日光華，唯求見祂面上榮光；
Content to let the world go by,     To know no gain nor loss--   甘心讓世界榮華流走，得失無關重要，
My sinful self my only shame,     My glory all the cross.   但將惡己看為唯一羞恥，寶架看為一切榮耀。
